4 Trends Impacting Software Development in 2023

It’s still the first quarter of the year, and already so much innovation is happening in technology. No one knows what the rest of 2023 will bring, but here are four stories and trends impacting software development I’ll keep an eye on this year. I want to see how these software development trends evolve and how they might impact Atomic Object.

GitHub Copilot Improvements

The increasing prevalence of code-generating tools or code that writes itself is an interesting development in software development. Simpler tasks like writing tests are getting easier as GitHub Copilot gets more accurate. As code and websites become easier to create, this could have an impact on the software products we deliver. We may be able to take advantage of Copilot to develop software more quickly and accurately.

Chat GPT-3

ChatGPT is an AI. It has become a very popular topic in the last few months as the general public has been able to chat with it. I’m not sure yet how or if ChatGPT specifically will impact any work Atomic Object does this year.  However, AI has the potential to support a chatbot in a software program. AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT are becoming more sophisticated and can handle more complex conversations.

User Analytics Growth

Software analytics are becoming more prevalent as our customers seek to better understand how their customers use their software systems. Most analytics systems now have generated a massive amount of data. This data is making software analytics a valuable tool organizations can use for extracting insights and making informed decisions.

I have used this data to improve the user experience, identify areas of the software that are not being used effectively, and make optimizations that drive better performance and efficiency.  The growing prevalence of software analytics and user tracking could significantly impact the software industry in the future.

Low-Code Solutions

Increasingly, we are using tools and components to reduce the amount of code needed. Low-code platforms come in many forms. You can combine and configure them to create custom applications. I’ve used common pre-built components such as user interfaces, business logic, and data connectors.  This enables us to create software solutions with much less manual coding, reducing development time and cost.

Software Development Trends

I think 2023 will be an exciting time for software development. There are several trends around AI and gaining efficiency to develop high-quality and tested software faster.
