Atomic Object Raleigh Is Now a Majority-Women Office

In late June, our office quietly crossed a threshold worth reflecting on. With two new accelerators joining the team, we now have 9 women and 7 men in our Raleigh office. For the first time, women make up the majority of the people at my workplace, something not many in the tech industry can say.

A Growing Trend at Atomic Object

If you know the tech industry, you know why this is notable. Software development and consulting have long skewed heavily male. Atomic Object has seen the percentage of women at the company grow steadily for quite a while now. Atomic’s 2025 DE&I Report notes that between 2002 and 2025, the proportion of women at Atomic grew from 8 to 39 percent. It’s significant growth for gender diversity, and I’m glad to be part of it.

Representation in Leadership

Something worth pointing out is that our representation spans multiple job titles, not just headcount. One of our two Managing Partners is a woman (shout out, Taylor), and that was one of the first things I noticed when applying for the accelerator position in 2025. Representation in the hiring process and throughout leadership matters. It showed me that my growth here isn’t capped by some glass ceiling I have to break.

Raleigh also hired our first accelerator manager this year, Valerie. This past accelerator hiring season, I was able to attend the NC State career fair with her (you can read my thoughts on that in my previous blog post). Part of why I wanted to go was to show other women the position I was in a year ago, and where it could lead. Valerie is a great example of that herself. She’s been a software developer for a while now and is candid about the sexism she’s faced in the industry, including what it’s like being the only woman in the room. That firsthand experience makes her a great mentor. She understands challenges related to being in a male-dominated field in a way that people without that experience can’t.

Work Still Ahead

I also want to be clear that this is only one part of the picture. We still have a lot of work to do to increase diversity at Atomic Object, namely, racial diversity. We have a Diversity Action Council in place to help with that. You can read more about Atomic’s diversity efforts in our annual DE&I Report .
